Exercise 1 - Understanding meaning
Distorted means changed in a negative way, either by leaving something out or by changing the form of something.

For example:

Politicians often give us a distorted picture: Because they leave out parts of the truth, the information they give us is not accurate.


Distorted can also mean to change the true shape of something.

For example:

The picture on the left is clear, but we distorted the other two pictures. In other words, we changed what the picture looked like, so now it is hard to see what the original picture was.

To see how charts can distort information, see Exercise 5 for the word "chart".
