circumstances
Exercise 1 - Understanding meaning
Circumstances means the conditions around an event or situation that may affect it.

For example:

We usually give free food to people only once a week - but some old people have no money and no family. We give these people free food every day because of their circumstances.

"Circum" in Latin means around, surrounding (like a circle)- this will help you remember the meaning of circumstances.
