Exercise 4 - Language in use
This exercise focuses on words that go together with clarify.

To clarify the extent - this means to find out how big or serious something is.
Imagine your computer stops working. Before you decide whether to fix it or buy a new one, you would try to clarify the extent of the problem.

To clarify the meaning - sometimes people do not say exactly what they mean, and you need to clarify what they wanted to say.
A researcher is discussing her study which showed that there are serious problems with the educational system. People want to understand exactly what she is saying - so they ask questions to help “clarify the meaning” or “clarify the extent”.
