Exercise 6 - Towards academic reading
Read this paragraph and answer the question below.
How to Win Debates

Debates can soon end in "shouting matches" with insults flying and no conclusions being drawn, unless students learn the rules and techniques of debating. Schools that teach students how to debate well have noticed that students also learn how to plan and present their arguments effectively, as well as how to analyze their opponents' arguments and find their weak points.

Some websites such as http://iteslj.org/Techniques/Krieger-Debate.html give useful tips and techniques for improving debating skills. However, the best way to improve your debating skills is by practicing and trying to learn from your mistakes.
