compensation
Exercise 6 - Towards academic reading
Nature has very often ensured the survival of different types of animals or plants by giving them abilities that can compensate for a weakness. For example, the gazelle is a deer-like animal that is not strong enough to defend itself against stronger animals such as lions. On the other hand, it is an unusually fast runner, so it can often outrun the lion.
