If something has validity, we accept it because it is based on facts, truth or logic.
  • Your high grade on the exam gives validity to your claim that you do not need to study in order to do well.
validity (noun)
If a research instrument has validity, then it measures what researchers designed it to measure.
  • A math test has validity if it measures only mathematical knowledge. If the math test also measures the students' ability to spell words correctly, then it is not a valid test of mathematical knowledge.
